The Transvaginal Aspiration (TVA) is the technique in which a certified veterinarian uses an ultrasound-guided needle” to reach the accessible follicles with more than 10 mm of diameter to recover immature oocytes that will be used to start the in vitro embryo production by ICSI.
Where can the procedure be done?
The breeder can choose to have the procedure performed either at their own stud farm or by sending the donor mare to a Reproduction Center for monitoring.
To perform TVA on the stud farm, the technician needs a place with a chute plus power and water supplies to make the procedure with the donor. Additionally, a clean and dark room is needed for oocyte selection.
